Advocacy inititative “A community without addiction”

Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection – KOMF, the Office for Good Governance of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Trust Circle Foundation and the Labyrinth Center come up with the installation “A community without addiction”, as an awareness message and call for the prevention of drug abuse by children and youth in Kosovo.

Kosovo is facing numerous challenges in preventing and treating child victims of substance abuse. In recent years, it is estimated that the total number of users has exceeded 30,000. In recent years, the estimated number of users has surpassed 30,000, with children and adolescents making up an increasingly large proportion each year. According to data from the Labyrinth organization, the average age of initial drug use has dropped from 18 in 2018 to just 16 in recent years.

To address this alarming situation, it is essential to take urgent measures to raise awareness about the risks of drug use. It is also required to develop structured programs for the prevention and treatment of addiction to narcotic substances in Kosovo and the development of specialized services for the treatment of children and young people who use drugs, as well as to empower parents through programs that help them increase their capacity to support their children.

This advocacy initiative was carried out within the framework of “MEGAFON” – which is supported by the regional project SMART Balkans – Civil Society for Shared Values in the Western Balkans implemented by the Center for the Promotion of Civil Society (CPCD) in cooperation with the Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM), and the Center for Research and Policy Making (CRPM) and financially supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NMFA).
