KOMF appeals to institutions after the act of violence at a children’s match in Fushë Kosovë

Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection – KOMF, representing 35 non-governmental organizations, has followed with concern and regret the images published in the media documenting a serious incident that occurred during a football match between two children’s clubs in Fushë Kosovë. In this incident, an adult entered in the field and commited physical violence against a child.

KOMF strongly condemns this unacceptable act of violence, which not only constitutes a serious violation of the rights of the child, but also seriously damages the emotional and psychological safety of the children. Violence against children is unjustifiable, especially when it occurs in spaces that should be safe, educational and stimulating their development. What makes this event even more shocking is the fact that according to published evidence, the attack was also racially motivated.

KOMF calls on the justice institutions to investigate this act and take immediate measures. Punishing this act is necessary to send the message that violence, racism and any other form of inappropriate behavior have no place in sport, or in activities where children participate.

KOMF also encourages all parents, coaches, sports clubs and the wider community to make efforts to guarantee a safe, healthy and positive environment for children. Sport should be a space where children learn about respect, cooperation, inclusion and the development of skills, and not an arena where they experience violence and fear.

KOMF appeals for close cooperation between institutions, the community and organizations to build a strong system of protection for children in all spaces where they grow, learn and play. KOMF expresses its full willingness to contribute in this direction and to ensure that such events do not happen again. Children have the right to be safe always and everywhere.
