Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection – KOMF expresses concern about the reported cases of measles among children in recent weeks. According to data from health institutions, 10 cases of children affected by measles have been identified, and all infected children have been unvaccinated. In addition, the decline in MMR vaccine coverage (against measles, mumps, and rubella) among the 12–24 month age group remains concerning, increasing the risk of measles outbreaks and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
KOMF calls on all parents and legal guardians to vaccinate their children, in accordance with the regular vaccination schedule. KOMF emphasizes that children’s vaccination is a legal obligation of parents, directly related to the protection of the child’s health.
Vaccines are the most effective tool for preventing dangerous diseases; they are scientifically tested, safe, and approved by relevant international health institutions.
In this regard, KOMF calls on parents not to fall victim to misinformation and inaccurate information that may circulate in public spaces or online. For any uncertainties, parents are encouraged to consult healthcare professionals at Family Medicine Centres in municipalities.
At the same time, KOMF calls on health institutions to intensify actions for identifying unvaccinated children and for vaccinating children in the community (door-to-door).
KOMF emphasizes the need for a coordinated and continuous institutional response, with a focus on increasing vaccination coverage and effectively protecting children’s health. KOMF considers that health institutions should intensify awareness-raising campaigns on vaccination, which should be accompanied by continuous information for parents, with the aim of ensuring that they are accurately and fully informed about the importance and safety of vaccination.
