The European Speech Therapy Day is celebrated for the first time in Kosovo in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
The Zë organization in cooperation with the Prime Minister's Office for Good Governance, in partnership with the Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection - KOMF organized the national conference to mark the European Speech Therapy Day.
During the conference, a report was presented on the current state of speech therapy in our country. There are about 180 licensed speech therapists in Kosovo, while only 6 speech therapists are involved in public institutions.
Representatives from public institutions, civil society and the University discussed the importance of raising awareness regarding the role of speech therapists, as well as the need for their involvement in public health, social and educational institutions. This discussion highlights the importance of integrating speech therapy services into public institutions to ensure appropriate support for children and individuals who need specialized speech therapy services.
European Speech Therapy Day is marked on March 6 and symbolizes the founding of the Coalition of Speech Therapy Organizations in Europe, ESLA European Speech & Language Therapy Association, in 1988. From 2023, Kosovo is represented in ESLA by the organization "Zë", as the only member state from the Western Balkans region.
