On the occasion of the International Day of Children, the Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection – KOMF, in cooperation with SOS Children’s Villages Kosovo, Terre des hommes in Kosovo, Down Syndrome Kosova, the Organization for Children without Parental Care, Zë – Speech Therapy Centre for Treatment and Research, and Handikos Ferizaj, organized the symbolic and awareness-raising activity “Letters from the Children of Kosovo.”

Through this initiative, children were provided with a space to freely express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, placing their voices at the centre of the public discussion. In their letters, children shared their concerns, dreams, expectations, and requests, addressing institutions and decision-makers directly with sincere messages about their rights, protection, well-being, and future.

Each letter represented a unique voice and served as a reminder that children have the right to be heard and to participate in decisions that affect their lives. Through their messages, they called for greater safety, quality education, better services, support for children in need, safe spaces for development, and a society that listens to, respects, and protects them.

On 1 June, these letters were symbolically placed at the entrances of key institutions, including the Assembly of Kosovo, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, the Municipality of Prishtina, Family Medicine Centres, the Radio Television of Kosovo, and other public institutions. This symbolic action aimed to remind institutions of their responsibility to listen to children’s voices and to reflect them in the policies, programmes, and decisions that affect their lives.

The activity promoted children’s right to participation as one of the fundamental principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, emphasizing that children are not merely beneficiaries of public policies, but citizens with views, experiences, and ideas that deserve to be taken seriously.

This KOMF initiative was implemented within the framework of the national intervention “MEGAFON – Empowering the Voice of Children and Youth in Kosovo”, supported by the regional project “SMART Balkans – Civil Society for Shared Values in the Western Balkans” implemented by the Center for the Promotion of Civil Society (CPCD) in cooperation with the Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM), and the Center for Research and Policy Making (CRPM) and financially supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NMFA).
